5. Invisible Book Shelves

If you want to create a playful, mind-bending optical illusion that leaves guests guessing, invisible bookshelves are a must-try DIY project. This clever design mounts a sturdy L-bracket directly to the wall in a way that allows a stack of books to act as its own shelf.
Using a heavy-duty metal L-bracket, screw the bottom flange into a wall stud. Choose a hardcover book with a sturdy back cover that you don’t mind altering. Slide the back cover of the book underneath the bottom bracket, and use double-sided tape or small fasteners to secure the cover in place. Stack more books on top of this foundational book, and suddenly your literature appears to be floating magically against the wall. It is a fantastic conversational piece for minimalist dens and narrow hallways.
