5. Terrazzo-Style Acrylic Chip Coasters
Terrazzo is a classic Italian design style featuring chips of marble, quartz, or granite set in cement. You can easily replicate this high-end, mosaic look using resin and cured acrylic paint chips, polymer clay slices, or crushed plastic fragments. This project is excellent for beginners because it does not require complex color-blending skills.
You can make your own terrazzo chips by spreading thin layers of acrylic paint onto a silicone mat, letting them dry completely, and scraping them up into irregular flakes. Mix these colorful chips directly into a batch of clear resin. Pour the mixture into your coaster mold, ensuring the chips are evenly distributed. Because the chips can sometimes settle to the bottom, you can pour a solid, opaque white or pastel-colored resin backing layer once the first layer has partially cured to make the colorful terrazzo fragments pop.
