8. Faux Marble and Geode Coasters
Creating faux marble or geode coasters is an excellent way to practice resin pouring techniques like dirty pours and ribboning. This style looks incredibly sophisticated and expensive, mimicking natural stone, quartz, or marble. You will need opaque white resin pigment, a metallic pigment (like gold or bronze), and a dark contrasting color like charcoal grey or black.
Mix your resin and divide it into separate cups for each color. Pour a solid base of white resin into the mold. Next, take your dark grey and metallic resins and pour them in thin, wavy lines across the white base, mimicking the natural veins found in marble. Use a toothpick or a heat gun on a low setting to gently feather and soften the edges of the colored lines. For a geode effect, you can place real crushed glass or quartz crystals along the edges of the mold before pouring your resin.
